Welcome Parents and Students!
Mr. Kelley's Classroom Webpage is THE place to get all of the up to the minute news on ALL things 8th Grade Social Studies direct from James J Curiale! This webpage will be updated with every unit that we work on. You can find copies of class and homework assignments, surveys, YouTube videos and helpful hotlinks that can assist your understanding of the material we are covering in class. You can also find a copy of the new Common Core State Standards that will guide our class. We will be working hard to raise expectations of our students as well as the entire school.
The unit we are currently working on in Social Studies is Immigration in the late 1800's and early 1900's. We will be focusing on not only immigration from Western and Eastern Europe but also our own families and communities stories of immigration. We will also be focusing on social reforms of the time as well. We will explore tenement houses and ethnic neighborhoods. We will see how language, culture and tradition helped shape many major cities in the United States.
We have a lot to cover so please make sure that you and your notebook are up to date on what is going. If you have any questions feel free to go to the Contact Information page under Expectations and Grading Tab and let me know what I can do to make your learning experience more enjoyable.
Thanks!
Mr. Kelley
